Choosing sides has led to divisions in our sides with some feeling left out while others feel they have gained a lot from the advances. The first view on jobs is that as we adapted to the numerous historical technological advancements, so will we adapt to the expected job losses. Malcolm Glawell in his article Small Change: Why the revolution will not be tweeted says that technology may have increased the reach of people on issues but has dealt a blow to how people relate with each other (2007). Summary Groups were told to design a prototype which wold be able be used by a library as a computer system. The aim of this report was to show the factors that led to the group failing to carry out this tasks. The factors that caused this to happen were time mismanagement, bad project planning and poor communication. Factors that lead to a group failing a project was chosen as the topic of the report so problems that led to the group failing could be identified and understood in a way that would prevent group members from making the same mistakes in any future projects. The group ended up getting very low scores because of the way the project was carried out. The work was not evenly shared out between the group members and all group members did not meet up regularly to see who h ad done which stage of the project. One group member ended up doing most of the task including the story design, the Entity relationship diagram, most of the use case descriptions and the structured English because the other group members did not understand how to do these part of the projects. This led to the group getting very low scores in all these sections as the individual who carried out most of the tasks was not able to fully focus on each section and develop them to an adequate level. This could have been avoided if the group had planned the project well because the weaknesses of individual members could have been discussed earlier and the person who understood the work could have showed the other members of the group how to carry out the various task they did not understand and this would have helped the group avoid failing this stage of the project. Then I will talk about another concentration camp called Bergen-Belsen. After that, I will tell you about the concentration camp Treblinka. Finally, the last concentration I will talk about is Auschwitz-Birkenau. Describing these camps will inform you that concentration camps were a huge part of the Holocaust. Dachau was a devastating concentration camp of the Holocaust. Dachau was built in 1933. At first, it was a extermination camp for Jewish people and political prisoners. Then it became a full-time concentration camp for prisoners. In 1943, the Nazis decided to force the occupants into back-breaking labor. The Nazis made the prisoners make arms and supplies for the war. At this camp, they performed brutal medical experiments on the prisoners. Over 3,500 people had experiments performed on them and most all died. When the war was coming to an end, the United States liberated over 32,000 prisoners on April 29, 1945. This was one of the most devastating concentration camps of the Holocaust. Bergen-Belsen was another horrifying concentration camp. This camp was a holding center camp. This means that the people that were sent there were going to be kept there until they died, or until the war was over. The people at this camp were usually killed by diseases like tuberculosis and typhus. The bodies were thrown all over and just disregarded like they were nothing at all. They had some mass graves to put the bodies in, but most were just lying around. The most famous person from this camp was Anne Frank. Her diary lead todays generation to fully understand this period of time. When the camp was liberated on April 15, 1945, the British found 10,000 unburied bodies, and 40,000 sick, starving, or wounded. Thus proves this camp was one of the most horrifying camps of the Holocaust. Another camp called Treblinka was a pure killing center. This death camp opened in 1942, making it one of the last death camps to open. The whole purpose of this place was to kill Jews. They did this with 13 carbon-monoxide chambers. The people were sent to the camp by trains, unloaded, and sent into changing rooms. They were forced to give up their clothes and put new ones on. They were sent to either so called showers, or a mass grave where they were shot. The carbon-monoxide chambers were disguised as the showers. As soon as the Jews were in, they locked the doors and started pouring gas into them. This was the way they killed the prisoners. The Nazis killed about 50,000 people per month, making it the most efficient concentration camps ever made. This made Treblinka a pure killing center. The most notorious concentration camp ever was Auschwitz-Birkenau. Auschwitz was opened in April of 1940. It became the first Annihilation death camp. It was also the largest death camp. It was so big, it was split into three parts. This place was called hell on earth, because the prisoners were forced in, and killed almost immediately. Trains transported prisoners there every half hour. Almost all of the people killed there were from Poland. Over all, about 1.25 million people were killed at Auschwitz. All of this makes Auschwitz-Birkenau the most notorious death camp. In conclusion, concentration camps were a big part of the Holocaust. The camps I talked about were Dachau, Bergen-Belsen, Treblinka, and Auschwitz-Birkenau. I chose them because they were bigger and more notorious than the other concentration camps. These concentration camps will be remembered forever for the numbers of people that the Nazis killed during the Holocaust.

The most interesting would be to go to the Pyramids of Egypt and see the creations of this magnificent group of people. While visiting the pyramids going to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo would greatly improve your understanding of the ancient Egyptians. Another place to visit would be a national park where you could see the animals that are indigenous to this continent. Middle East The Middle East is the birthplace of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. But it is also the birthplace of conflict between countries in that region and the West. The major reason for dispute is over the regions most valuable resource: oil. In this region wars were started because of oil. Iraq invaded Kuwait for control of there oil fields and this triggered U.S involvement. It isnââ¬â¢t just oil that has shaped this region. Spices have made a huge contribution to this region. Arab merchants spread their goods throughout the world along with their culture. Other cultures then seeped into the Middle East from other trading nations. This regionââ¬â¢s resources shaped its culture. The Middle East is the birthplace of the major religions and the city to visit would be Jerusalem. In Jerusalem you can visit The Wall, which is one of the most significant places for the Jews. You could also travel to Mecca to visit the Holy Mosque, which is the most famous for the Muslims. India India is rich in spices due to its climate and its relationship with other spice producing regions. 1. In general, how did C&Cââ¬â¢s first organizational structure contribute to the store managersââ¬â¢ dissatisfaction? The overall managerial structure of the company inhibited communication and cross training for its managers. The lack of communication between functional specialties keeps cooperation down and thus can lead to poor performance. The inability to be cross trained in multiple functional areas restricts their ability for promotion. The store managers did not have control of their entire stores, and lacked training and development for higher level management positions. 2. What effect did it have had for store meat and produce managers to report to district specialists? Store Managers had no authority over Produce and Meat Department managers. Separate departments were unable to work together for the good of the entire store. This led to centralized decision making up several vertical linkages. 3. What structural problems contributed to the chain being slow to adapt to change? To make changes at the store level, information had to be passed by the meat, produce, and grocery managers up three to four vertical linkages before a centralized decision could be made at the district director level. Also, stores lacked the ability to add more specialized departments like pharmacies or gourmet departments. 4. Why was cooperation within stores so poor? Each store lacked a centralized decision maker for the local store. Multiple managers oversaw multiple functional areas without reporting to a primary source. This created conflicted decision making without consultation in regards to the overall strategy of that store. 5. How would the proposed reorganization address the problems addressed in each question above? a. With the proposed restructure the store manager would have complete store control and better training from the district supervisor. It also allowed for better adaptation to local conditions. b. Meat and Produce departments now would report to a local store manager that can make decisions for the entire store. c. The new structure provides more flexibility with decision making and allowing for expansion into other specialty areas. 6. What disadvantages might emerge over time with the proposed reorganization? The new structure is more horizontal than vertical and may lead to decreases in efficiency due to less emphasis on specialized tasks and reporting to centralized decision makers. 7. Given the advantages and disadvantages of each of the two structures, which would you adopt, and why? (Remember that no structure has only advantages, so if your discussion begins to take on that tone, broaden the input for a more well-rounded approach.) The original structure was more vertical and lacked shared tasks, horizontal communication, and centralized decision making at the store level. The new structure is more horizontal in layout and is streamlined for individual learning and development as well as shared empowerment. My goals for the start of my internship were simple, but quickly evolved. My goals were to gain experience and build my resume, while bringing the lessons I have absorbed in college, and using my skills as an engineer to assist the department of public works. American Government In Contrast To Lao-Tzu And Machiavelli Peter Ryan Welch 382-92-3692 February 6, 2001 Dr. Allegra Blake, ENG 201 American Government in Contrast to Lao-Tzu and Machiavelli In comparing and contrasting the governmental philosophies of the great thinkers Lao-Tzu and Machiavelli, I have found a pleasant mix of both of their ideas would be the best for America today. Lao-Tzus laisse-faire attitude towards the economy, as well as his small scale military is appealing to my liberal side, while Machiavellis attitude towards miserliness which causes low taxes appeals to the right wing. These great thinkers contradict the popular saying all great thinkers think alike. They have several ideas, such as taxes, that are the same, while other ideas, like the involvement of government in citizens' everyday lives are totally opposite. I shall start with the ideas of Machiavelli, then move on to Lao-Tzus, and finally a comparison and application into American life. Niccolo Machiavelli believes in a strong government. The leader should be strong and feared. I believe he gets this idea from the fear of God; no one is supposed to question God because he is so feared, and in the same sense, no one should question a strong leader. Machiavelli realizes that the leader should be feared, but not hated. A hated leader will probably be killed in a rebellion. One also can not be loved. Any compassion towards your citizens will make them believe you are weak, and they will rebel. He thinks a very strong military is necessary at all times, and that powerful arms should be available and in hand. This idea is similar to that of right wing America and our friends, the National Rifle Association, who believe assault rifles are Americas pastime. The nation should always be prepared for war, and should always be searching for new lands to conquer. This is much like our cold war with the USSR and the new lands to conquer would be anything Communist. These wars sho uld go on without high taxes. High taxes as well cause rebellion. Case in point: the high taxes levied against America by the British, as well as other strong factors, led to the American revolution. He believes a government should be miserly with its own goods. That is not to say you cant steal the goods of conquered countries and be liberal with them. Try not to be too generous, however. A quote I once read says remember to pillage before you burn. This reminds me a lot of the ideas of Machiavelli. According to him, one should say one thing just to make the people happy, and do another. He believes one should only keep his word if it is for the benefit of the nation. Six words: read my lips, no new taxes, come to mind. George H.W. Bush said these words, but acted differently. Machiavellian? Maybe. Bush shortly after had the largest tax hike in the nation's history to try to save us from the worst recession since the Great Depression. I believe this is the sort of thing Machiavelli is talking about. Do whatever you can to keep the people happy, but when it comes down to it, what makes them happy may not be best for the state as a whole. He believes that people are generally bad and greedy, so they will take whatever you give them. Lao-Tzu is not exactly polar opposite of Machiavelli, although he is close. He believes that man in a state of nature is generally good and not greedy. What makes man greedy is overemphasis on material objects, and if you let a man go free in nature, he will be good. Lao-Tzu believes in a state of peace; war is not necessary. Lao-Tzu thinks decent men detest weapons. Weapons are only needed when entirely necessary, in a state of defense. This is sort of a liberal point of view of war. He states violence, even well intentioned, always rebounds upon itself, therefore, any attack upon another country will result in an attack upon yourself. News media does not have the prowess to invent or cover up problems, but only modify the alertness, priorities and salience people fix to a set of problems. Not enough research has been done.
